Trace element release from Bowland Shale into spring water in Lancashire

چکیده
Abstract A sulfurous spring emerges at an outcrop of Bowland Shale Formation on Crimpton Brook, Lancashire. The is marked by the precipitation white and yellow jarosite. Comparable light sulfur isotope compositions suggest that jarosite was derived from surface oxidation pyritic shale. shale contains anomalous concentrations selenium other trace elements, in common with exposures north England. resident pyrite, released during incorporated into Brook. small scale water flow site remote situation pose no environmental problem, but data exemplify potential danger pyrite weathering groundwater a larger scale.

Minimizing Water Invasion into Kazhdumi Shale Using Nanoparticles
Fluid invasion from water-based drilling mud (WBDM) into the shale formations causes swelling, high pressure zone near the wellbore wall, and eventually wellbore instability problems during drilling operations. For the stability of the wellbore, physical plugging of nanoscale pore throats could be considered as a logical approach toward avoiding the fluid invasion into the shale formation. This...
متن کاملGeochemical Modeling of Trace Element Release from Biosolids
Biosolids-borne trace elements may be released to the environment when biosolids are used as fertilizers in farm land. Trace element leachate concentrations from biosolids are known to be limited by both organic and inorganic sorbent surfaces; this experimental evidence has not been previously verified with geochemical modeling of sorption reactions. In this study, pH-dependent leaching experim...
متن کاملThe influence of a slow-release multi-trace element ruminal bolus on trace element status, number of ovarian follicles and pregnancy outcomes in synchronized Afshari ewes
Published data on the effects of ruminal bolus on the number of ovulatory follicles in ewes does not exist. The present study determined the effects of a ruminal bolus on trace element status, follicular dynamics and reproductive performance in ewes. Eighty Afshari cycling ewes were synchronized during breeding season using CIDR for 14 days and assigned to 4 groups (n=20); group 1 received a si...
متن کاملEconomic Evaluation of Bowland Shale Gas Wells Development in the UK
The UK has had its fair share of the shale gas revolutionary waves blowing across the global oil and gas industry at present. Although, its exploitation is widely agreed to have been delayed, shale gas was looked upon favorably by the UK Parliament when they recognized it as genuine energy source and granted licenses to industry to search and extract the resource. This, although a significant p...
متن کاملAssessment of trace element impacts on agricultural use of water from the Dan River following the Eden coal ash release.
Catastrophic events require rapid, scientifically sound decision making to mitigate impacts on human welfare and the environment. The objective of this study was to analyze potential impacts of coal ash-derived trace elements on agriculture following a 35,000-tonne release of coal ash into the Dan River at the Duke Energy Steam Station in Eden, North Carolina. We performed scenario calculations...
